Well, I’ve been bandying about posting something soon, and I’ve finally got around to it. Truth be told, I succumbed to the oldest fault in the book (or at least my book): waiting until things are just right before pushing it to the world. And perfection… well sometimes it just ain’t worth it. So, on with the show, even though I have so, so much more to say.
Argentina, the first night
January 20th, 2010
I’m tipsy, full, and finished. I guess I could be doing worse adjusting to the rhythm of life in Buenos Aires.
A foreword: my first day has been pretty lax. I arrived around noon and I’m getting picked up at at 10:30 tomorrow morning to go to the place I’m interning at.
But, back to my mental/physical state: I’d been warned that life here is different – of course, where isn’t life different when you travel? But we’re talking about meals here. Food! For me, life revolves around eating times. And though I’d been briefed on the Argentinean meal routine by the genial gynecologist who sat next to me on the plane (small breakfast, early lunch, a snack between 5 and 7, and real dinner at 9), I was not prepared for the added variable of my hostel-mates. That, I think, is what truly threw me off.
New side project: ouchmyskinhurts.com
January 15th, 2010
Something I’ve been putting a bit of time into (particularly over the holidays) is ouchmyskinhurts.com. It’s a soon-to-be collective blog about living with eczema and trying to get rid of it. I’ve asked some of my fellow eczematic friends to write some entries, and two have already signed up.
I’ve suffered from eczema from a very early age and have been putting some serious efforts into both combatting it and finding better ways to cope with it. As a result, I’ve been thinking about it a lot more and it’s inspired me to write a bit about it.
If you live with eczema (or have in the past) and have something to contribute, definitely have a look and get in touch!
On a technical note, the site is my first Movable Type blog (this site is a WordPress blog). Thought I’d branch out and try a CMS built around a different approach. The load times seem to be much better, though it’s also a much simpler site than this one.
Last 3D assignment, Argentina!
January 10th, 2010
The end of the Fall ’09 semester flew by: assignment overload and a few weeks down with a bad cold made for some compressed deadline dashing! Since I was doing some behind-the-scenes blog maintenance, I figured I may as well post some work, too.
Here’s a 3D assignment that called on us to squash, stretch, and bend a figure a few different ways to create different emotions. I decided to use a few different audio samples to create the mood, and then went with a speaker to sync the audio to a transform. Here’s the result.
Another thing that’s made the last few weeks particularly hectic is that I’ve accepted an internship to Buenos Aires. Excitement and nervousness abound: I’ll be placed at CIMA Soluciones, assisting with their marketing, materials, and online presence. For the first month, at least, I’ll be staying with Maria Teresa at La Casa de Maria Tango. Major props to my Flash instructor, Andrew Tedford, for connecting me to the internship and Tracy Rogers at Seneca Career Services for making superhuman efforts to make everything happen.
I’m leaving January 18, and returning March 25. As you might expect, I won’t be available by telephone, but e-mail and other on-line forms of contact will be operational.
I was going to preface this post with a Buenos F*cking Aires t-shirt image, but everything I found was copyrighted. So to make it up to you, I thought I’d share a relevant lolcat. Hopefully my experience will be a little less solitary than this feline’s.
